MAC Cream Colour Base in Shell

Hey lovelies, today’s post is another full review of something I featured in my February Favourites – MAC Cream Colour Base in Shell.

As I mentioned in my favourites post, I’ve actually had this for a while but hadn’t really been getting much use out of it as I’d been keeping other highlighters in my everyday makeup bag. Back in January I rotated it around so it was more accessible and I now remember why I bought it! It’s so lovely!

Cream Colour Bases are pretty solid in the pan but when warmed up with your fingers they become beautifully creamy. I layer mine over the top of my foundation, after I’ve set it with a powder and use it as a highlight on the tops of my cheekbones, my brow bones and down the centre of my nose. I know a lot of people swear by the CCB in Pearl as a highlighter but I find that shade just too icy and shimmery. In contrast Shell is a lot warmer and adds a really pretty natural glow without making me look like a glitter ball! It’s a peachy beige and I think it would suit a majority of skin tones. I use this both during the day and at night and it always looks luminous and natural. I think you could probably be a bit heavy handed with this if it was applied with a sponge or a brush but when applied with my fingers it’s sheer enough to not look overdone.
It looks a bit bronze in the swatch but its not too brown toned that it doesn’t work for fairer people like me. I’d definitely consider another purchase of another Cream Colour Base in the future but I don’t think I would like any of the other shades as much as I like Shell. The only one I might consider would be Hush which is a similar frosted finish. Has anyone tried it?
