L’Oreal Rouge Caresse

Hey cupcakes, apologies I’ve been MIA for a while. I’ve been working lots and then was struck down with one of these horrible flu bugs that is doing the rounds so finding chances to blog has been a complete nightmare!

Today I want to review the L’Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipsticks. I know the bloggersphere has been completely saturated with reviews but I thought it might be nice to share my thoughts. I picked up the shades 103 – Sweet Berry and 301 – Dating Coral.

So as we all probably know, the Rouge Caresse lipsticks are L’Oreal’s answer to the much raved about Revlon Lip Butters. They launched more or less at the same time and both retail for £7.99. I actually purchased these after I’d already tried the Lip Butter’s and expected something almost identical. In fact, they are two completely different products! The Rouge Caresse is much more pigmented and I’ve found them to have a better staying power because of that. However, because of that they lose the whole lip balm / lipstick hybrid factor for me. These are definitely more of a sheer, lightweight lipstick then anything else. They are still moisturising but not nearly as much as the Lip Butters.

I really like the packaging of the Rouge Caresse. They are strong and sturdy in transparent and chrome packaging. I also like the coloured metallic square on the top. On most shades this is colour-co-ordinated to the colour inside which is a nice touch.
When I bought some of the Revlon Lip Butter’s I went for all pink shades so I purposefully avoided buying anything too similar from the Rouge Caresse range. There are 12 shades to chose from and I went for a nude ‘my lips but better’ shade and a coral.

Shade 103 – Sweet Berry

In the bullet this shade is quite brown toned, more so then I would normally go for. However, on the lips it translates to a really healthy and natural nude lip. Despite the name, it’s not a hugely berry-like colour as it’s not overly pink or red toned but I really like that. This is proving to be a great everyday lip colour for me.
Shade 301 – Dating Coral
I’m not sure if it’s because the summer’s getting closer but lately I’ve been completely obsessed with corals. I absolutely love the colour of Dating Coral. It’s a beautifully warm coral with an orange undertone. It looks a little more red in the bullet but it applies to the lips in a gorgeous orangey shade that looks so pretty on and would compliment most skin tones. This was love at first use for me and I think I’ll be wearing it a lot when (or should I say if!) the weather heats up!

I have to say, however much I tried I could not get a photograph of these shades to do them justice. I definitely recommend having a look at them in the flesh next time you see them in store!

I’ll be doing a full comparison of the Revlon Lip Butter’s and the L’Oreal Rouge Caresse’s soon.
